A meeting was held in Matignon to accelerate the reconstruction of Mayotte, a French overseas territory devastated by Cyclone Chido.

Pending specific legislation and funding, victims are helping each other clean up and build new shelters.

Backhoe loaders begin to clear the debris carried by the cyclone. In a town of 21,000 inhabitants in the archipelago, three machines were deployed. The town hall’s technical services manager coordinates the cleaning operation.

Cyclone Chido swept through Mayotte on December 14, destroying essential infrastructure and shacks in the archipelago’s slums.

A few kilometers further, household waste was collected for the first time since Chido passed. The public body responsible for this task has still not resumed its work. As a result, municipal staff were requisitioned.
