In Beijing, thousands of people gathered at the Lamas temple to burn incense sticks and pray for good fortune.

The Lunar New Year, known as Spring Festival in China, Têt in Vietnam and Seollal in Korea, is widely celebrated by communities around the world.

This year is under the sign of the serpent which succeeds the year of the dragon.
