Relatives of detainees and human rights organizations demonstrated in the Argentine capital on Tuesday to demand the release of 16 people detained during a demonstration a week ago outside Congress against a package of economic proposals of right-wing Argentine President Javier Milei.

Relatives of detainees and human rights organizations demonstrated in the Argentine capital on Tuesday to demand the release of 16 people detained during a demonstration a week ago outside Congress against a package of economic proposals of right-wing Argentine President Javier Milei.

33 demonstrators were arrested and 17 have since been released. The others remain in prison because authorities say they could escape.

This is the first time that the judicial system incriminates the demonstrators. The charges includeincitement to collective violence against institutions, crimes against public authorities and constitutional order, attacks on authority and disruption of order during sessions of legislative bodies.
