At least 19 people were injured and approximately 250 damaged houses while the tornado swept the Los Lagos region, forcing evacuations and causing generalized electricity failures.
The shelters were damaged, goods scattered in stores and roofs torn from buildings. The tornado, classified EF-1 by the Meteorological Service of Chile, brought winds up to 178 km/h.
President Gabriel Boric visited the region on Monday, announcing emergency aid and support for self-reconstruction for affected families.
