The White House revoked a key police order connecting arms sales to international human rights law, according to reports.
US President Donald Trump ordered key policy, the Washington Post, anonymous sources, said on Monday.
Order, signed by Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, in the concerns of Israel’s actions during his war against Gaza, aimed to prevent sales of American weapons from contributing to human rights violations at the ‘stranger.
The sources told Daily that national security advisor Mike Waltz had published a service note formalizing the decision.
The national security memorandum-20, signed by Biden in February 2024, required insurance that US weapons would not be used in violation of international humanitarian law. The measure was considered to be a response to an increasing concern that Israel committed human rights violations in the midst of his bombing of Gaza.
The memorandum was one of the few policies of Biden remaining on the conflict. Any mention of the memorandum has been cleaned from the White House website, with research resulting in 404 error.
A report of May 2024, mandated by the memorandum, said that even if Israel may have violated international humanitarian law, the Biden administration could not verify specific cases of civil damage due to the current war.
Trump’s decision to overthrow the memorandum follows movements to disgust heavy weapons expeditions to Israel and raise sanctions against Israeli settlers in occupied West Bank.
On February 7, the Trump administration approved the sale of more than $ 7.4 billion in bombs, missiles and military equipment related to Israel.
The latest move actually removes the last vestige of Biden’s policies on the Gaza War, which killed at least 48,346 and left more than 111,759 others injured.
