US presidential election: Donald Trump leads the Iowa Republican primary


Despite his numerous ongoing trials, the former American president confirms his status as a big favorite among Republican voters, something never seen before in primaries.

The polar cold that fell on Iowa ultimately had no real impact on Donald Trump’s supporters. The former US president arrived Monday evening in this Midwestern state a first success consolidating its status as “leader” in view of the presidential election in November 2024 against its two main rivals from the Grand Old Party.

According to the American media, and, as hoped, the ex-president would have obtained more than 50% of the votes, ahead of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (around 21%), and Nikki Haley, finishing third at 19%. The candidate and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who would have obtained only 7% of the votes, immediately announced that he was throwing in the towel while calling for a vote for Trump.

This victory makes “favorite candidate” Republicans, concluded the American Democratic President, Joe Biden, on the social network X.

Despite his numerous legal setbacks – Donald Trump is currently the subject of four criminal charges – the former American president has a serious lead over his adversaries, never seen before in primaries.

However, the campaign has only just begun. From next week, all eyes will be on the New Hampshire, before each of the fifty states votes by next June. A national convention will conclude the nomination process in July.

In the meantime, as of this Tuesday, Donald Trump has another meeting with justice in a New York trial for defamation which could cost him several million dollars against the writer E. Jean Carroll. The ex-president is accused of denying having sexually assaulted her in the 1990s.
