Americans gathered on Wednesday to pay tribute to the victims of the September 11 attacks, which killed 2,977 people.
On the occasion of this 23rd anniversary, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Donald Trump and JD Vance, made the trip to the site Ground Zero in southern New York.
Former New York mayors, Michael Bloomberg And Rudy Giuliani who was the mayor at the time of the events, were also present.
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are also scheduled to attend similar events at the Pentagon, while Donald Trump will travel to Flight 93 National Memorial near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
As usual, the names of all the victims of the attacks were listed by their families or relatives.
Since 2012, politicians have been banned from speaking at anniversary ceremonies, in order to place greater emphasis on survivors and relatives of victims.
Tuesday, September 11, 2001, 19 Islamist terrorists from Al Qaeda hijacked four airliners. Two planes crashed into each of the World Trade Center’s twin towers, which collapsed shortly afterward.
Another plane crashed into the Pentagon, and the fourth ended up in a field in Pennsylvania after terrorists stormed the plane and passengers stormed the cockpit.
2,977 people lost their lives that day.
