Since January 1, 2024, Belgium has held the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union. Ursula von der Leyen traveled to Brussels to meet with Prime Minister Alexander de Croo. During a press conference, he recalled the EU’s priorities.

“The European population looks to the European Union. They expect the European Union to protect them, to strengthen their well-being and to prepare for a common future. A common future here in Europe also means, well sure, Ukraine at the heart of Europe”said Alexander de Croo.

This is the thirteenth time in its history that Belgium has held the presidency of the Council of the European Union. A position that she will hold until June 30, 2024.
