In this latest edition of Euronews Debates co-produced with CGTN, our panel of experts looks at the future of urban planning.
The panel, composed of Vassilia Pirierros, architect, Géry Leloutre, Belgian urban architect, Ding Yifan, Chinese economist, and Fabrice Fourcade, president of EDF China, discussed the impact of urban planning on ecology and social equality.
Architect Géry Leloutre notably highlighted how the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have transformed the city, particularly in terms of mobility and ecology.
Her colleague Vassilia Pirierros compared the urbanization rates in China and France, emphasizing the need to put in place policies to limit urban sprawl, taking the example of initiatives such as the Red Line Plan. of ecological protection in China and the French objective of zero net artificialization of land by 2050.
Ding Yifan clarified China’s new urbanization plan aimed at reversing the trend of ever-bigger cities. The panel explored strategies for creating harmony between nature and urban environments, including the development of green spaces in large cities.
Fighting against thermal strainers
Fabrice Fourcade, president of EDF China, emphasized the importance of improving the energy insulation of buildings. The experts discussed various initiatives, including the Sino-French ecological city in Wuhan, as examples of sustainable urban development.
