The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said that the operations of the Israeli forces in the northern West Bank have a continuing impact on tens of thousands of people in four refugee camps through the destruction of public and private infrastructure.
Lazzarini added that UNRWA was forced to suspend its services in many West Bank camps, due to these operations that caused massive destruction to the infrastructure.
He pointed out that more than 150 Palestinian children have been killed in the West Bank since the beginning of the war, according to estimates by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Lazzarini stressed that the time has come to reach a political solution to the decades-long conflict to end the suffering of civilians wherever they are.
Last Wednesday morning, the Israeli army, under heavy air force cover, began an operation in the Tulkarm and Jenin governorates (north) and the Far’a camp near Tubas (north), before withdrawing from Far’a and Tulkarm.
The Israeli army killed 19 Palestinians, injured dozens, and arrested 45, and continues its raids on Tulkarm and Jenin, in the largest operation since 2002.
In conjunction with its war on Gaza since October 7, the Israeli army has escalated its attacks in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, killing 670 Palestinians, including 150 children, injuring more than 5,400, and arresting more than 10,000.
