The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced on Tuesday the cessation of food distribution in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip due to a lack of supplies and lack of security as a result of the Israeli operation east of the city.
The agency confirmed – via the X platform – that it is currently difficult to reach the UNRWA distribution center and the World Food Program warehouse located in the city as a result of the Israeli military operation.
UNRWA explained that only 7 health centers are operating out of 24 centers affiliated with it in the Strip, and that it has not received any medical supplies during the past ten days due to the closure of the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings.
The crossing of aid through the Rafah crossing stopped after the Israeli army took control of the Palestinian side of it on May 7, while Israel closed the Kerem Shalom crossing to the entry of aid on the fifth of the same month.
Israel allowed only a limited number of private sector commercial trucks to enter the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, twice on May 15 and 18.
In light of this, the naval pier established by the United States off the shores of Gaza has become the only corridor for the movement of aid into the Strip since May 18, but only limited amounts of aid have entered through it.
As a result of the war and occupation restrictions, the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip suffer from a severe scarcity of food, water and medicine supplies, to the point where deaths from hunger have been recorded.
Israel continues the war on Gaza despite the issuance of a resolution by the UN Security Council to stop the fighting immediately and despite the International Court of Justice demanding that it take immediate measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
