The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that more than half of the buildings in the Gaza Strip were destroyed as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression since last October 7.
This came during a statement published by the agency on the “X” platform today, Monday, where it appeared that “more than half of the buildings in Gaza were destroyed,” according to data from the United Nations Satellite Center (UNOSAT).
UNRWA explained that the extent of the destruction in Gaza is “indescribable,” and that removing the rubble will take years, noting that recovery from the psychological trauma of war will take a longer time.
The agency also stressed the need to end the suffering in Gaza and establish a ceasefire.
On May 24, a statement by the government media office in Gaza revealed that the Israeli army had completely destroyed 87,000 homes due to its use of 77,000 tons of explosives since October 7, while 297,000 homes were damaged, becoming uninhabitable.
The United Nations had previously indicated that removing the rubble in Gaza may take 14 years.
In its ninth month in a row, the Israeli war on Gaza resulted in the death of more than 37,000 Palestinians and the wounding of about 84,500 others, most of them women and children, amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of dozens.
