The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Friday that, according to the Global Education Group, more than 76% of schools in the Gaza Strip need major reconstruction or rehabilitation to be able to operate again.

UNRWA added, in a post on the X platform, that despite this, its teams are trying to reach children through play and learning activities.

She stressed that education is a basic human right, calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Strip, which has been witnessing a devastating Israeli war for about 9 months.

The Education Group is a joint coordination mechanism between organizations working in the field of humanitarian response in the education sector in cases of internal displacement, and the group was established in 2007.

Since last October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza with absolute American support, leaving more than 123,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, in addition to thousands of missing people.

Israel continues its war despite two UN Security Council resolutions to stop it immediately, and orders from the International Court of Justice to end the invasion of the city of Rafah, and to take measures to prevent acts of “genocide” and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
