The United Nations said that the number of displaced people who arrived in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, since the start of the recent Israeli aggression, has reached about one million.
The United Nations added, in its daily humanitarian report, that “Rafah Governorate has now become the main refuge for displaced people, with more than a million people living in a very crowded area, following the intensification of hostilities in Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah, and evacuation orders issued by the Israeli army.”
By the end of 2023, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), the number of displaced people in Gaza is estimated at 1.9 million people, or approximately 85% of the total population of the Strip, including some who have been displaced multiple times, as families are forced to move. Frequently in the sector in search of safety.
Nearly 1.4 million displaced people live in 155 UNRWA facilities in all five governorates.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights reaffirmed that there is no safe space in Gaza.
UNHCR said in a statement: “We cannot talk about safety anywhere. People are sleeping on the streets in the open, and some of them were not even able to follow evacuation orders.”
