The United Nations said that “294 people have been killed in military points to distribute aid in the Gaza Strip since June 30,” stressing that the international humanitarian operations in Gaza are currently under severe pressure, and relief staff faces severe security risks.
Khaled Khakari, Assistant Secretary -General of the United Nations for Middle East and Asia, and the Pacific, stressed during an open discussion in the Security Council held yesterday evening, Wednesday, on the great importance of ending the conflict in Gaza permanently and the release of all prisoners.
“It is time for a long time to end the war, and to return the prisoners to their homes, and to the arrival of adequate humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and to start the process of recovery and reconstruction, all of this should be done within the framework of a return to a political process that leads to a two -state solution.”
He pointed out that the miserable situation in Gaza is continuing to deteriorate with the continued ceasefire talks.
Khayari added that “Israeli military operations and clashes are spread throughout the sector, and the human cost increases an hour by an hour, and this historic nightmare must end immediately.”
Grave risks
For his part, UN spokesman Stephen Dujarric said that “the international humanitarian operations in Gaza are currently under severe pressure, and relief staff faces severe security risks, and the crossings are still unreliable, and basic supplies are delayed or routine.”
Dujarric explained at the daily press conference that the United Nations is ready to seize the opportunity to stop the shooting with the aim of expanding the scope of humanitarian operations greatly throughout the Gaza Strip “as we did during the previous ceasefire.”
“Our plans are ready, but to create a real difference, Israel must enable the delivery delivery safely and without obstacles, and allow the entry of basic equipment and fuel,” he added.
Dujarik stressed the need for the humanitarian workers to be able to work safely, and stressed the need to allow people to move freely and that supplies – including the private sector – reach all parts of Gaza.
The UN spokesman said that “if these conditions are fulfilled, we will give priority urgently to provide food, water, shelter, medical care and protection for civilians in Gaza who face unimaginable difficulties for a very long time.”
“The Israeli authorities are the only ones who have the decision on how and the amount of aid entering the Gaza Strip, and the type of supplies permitted in light of huge logistical challenges,” said UN spokesman.
This comes at a time when the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that the hunger crisis in the Gaza Strip was not so badly before.
The office added that 109 relief organizations warned today that collective hunger is spread throughout the Gaza Strip, as colleagues and those who provide them with service are wasting.
The office said that relief workers are losing awareness of hunger and exhaustion due to daily malnutrition, adding that deadly malnutrition among children reaches a catastrophic level.
UNICEF warned that a child who suffers from acute malnutrition is 10 times more likely compared to the child who has good nutrition.
Israel has been besieging Gaza for 18 years, and about 1.5 million Palestinians out of about 2.2 million in the Strip are homeless after the extermination war has destroyed their homes.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has launched a mass extermination war in Gaza, which has left more than 202,000 Palestinians between a martyr and a wounded – most of them children and women – and more than 9,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced people and the famine that has been exhausted by the lives of many.
