UN General Assembly: Call for ceasefire in Gaza


United Nations member states have overwhelmingly called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas as the situation continues to deteriorate between the Jewish state and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

World leaders meeting in New York called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza as the United Nations General Assembly opened.

Several countries have criticized the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, as fears of an all-out regional war in the Middle East grow with the escalation between Hezbollah and the Jewish state.

The Head of the Italian Government Giorgia Meloni spoke on Tuesday.

We obviously believe in the right of the Palestinian people to have their own state. But for that to happen, the Palestinians must entrust it to leaders inspired by dialogue, the stabilization of the Middle East and autonomy..” she said.

While Giorgia Meloni reiterated that Israel had every legitimacy to defend its borders, she asked its leaders to respect international law by protecting civilian populations.

She called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, and for the release of the hostages the attack of October 7th.
