On Friday, human rights experts at the United Nations condemned the decision of Washington to impose sanctions on Francesca Albranzee, the special international human rights assistant in the occupied Palestinian territories, considering that the matter falls within the framework of a broader strategy to silence opposition voices and protect authoritarian structures from accountability.

Human rights experts condemned the decision of the United States to impose sanctions on Albranzee, reducing their commitment to defending the basic principles of human rights against efforts to undermine them, or intimidate or silence those working to protect them.

UN experts also expressed their full solidarity with the UN Resolution, whose mandate and reports are essential in supporting international legal standards and accountability.

And they considered that the work of albianzi represents a preliminary commitment to a human rights -based authorization, as it provides an independent and accurate analysis of severe human rights violations and international humanitarian law in the occupied Palestinian territories, including “forced transport and systematic discrimination and a wide range of international crimes that target many or affects in particular on women and children.”

Humanitarian experts pointed out that Albanezi was subjected to great pressure, which highlights the importance of protecting neutral human rights reports based on evidence, and stressed that this mandate plays a “fundamental role in documenting structural injustice and enhancing accountability under international law”, stressing that this effort must be preserved and protected.

They also mentioned that imposing sanctions on the UN headquarters because of its responsibility – which was assigned by the Human Rights Council – represents a “direct attack on the integrity of the United Nations human rights system” and considered that these measures constitute “a violation of international law, including the 1946 agreement on the privileges and horses of the United Nations, which gives the United Nations experts the privileges and immunities necessary to practice their jobs independently.”

Experts pointed out that this violation sends a dangerous message, threatens the independence of the system of special procedures, and negatively affects the global advocacy for human rights.

They also stressed the need for countries that differ with the opinions of United Nations experts to deal constructively through existing diplomatic channels. They emphasized that targeting the special decision cannot be separated from the grave international crimes and serious human rights violations committed against the Palestinians, in addition to the ongoing efforts to strip the defenders of their rights from legitimacy.

UN experts believe that the bias and threats faced by human rights defenders – whether they were researchers, civil society actors, officials or United Nations experts – reflects a “broader strategy to silence opposition voices and protect the offensive infrastructure from accountability.”

They concluded their statement by inviting all countries to condemn these sanctions (on Albanizi) and to refuse to cooperate in their implementation, and to renew their commitment to the United Nations special decision -makers, labor bodies, and independent experts, including the special course concerned with the human rights status in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.
