On Monday, a group of United Nations experts called on all countries to recognize the State of Palestine to ensure peace in the Middle East, following the recognition of the Palestinian State by Spain, Ireland, Norway and Slovenia.

The experts, including the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, said that recognition of a Palestinian state is an important recognition of the rights of the Palestinian people and their struggle for freedom and independence, according to what Reuters reported.

The experts explained that this recognition is “a precondition for lasting peace in Palestine and the entire Middle East,” noting that the two-state solution “remains the only internationally agreed upon path to achieving peace and security for both Palestine and Israel, and it is also the way out of the cycles of violence and anger that have been passed down through generations.”

This call from these UN experts comes less than a week after Spain, Ireland, and Norway officially recognized a Palestinian state, which sparked the anger of Israel, which finds its isolation increasing about 8 months after its war on the Gaza Strip.

Spain, Ireland and Norway said that the reason for their recognition of a Palestinian state was to seek to accelerate efforts to ensure a ceasefire and the war waged by Israel on Gaza.

The three countries expressed their hope that their decision would motivate other European Union countries to follow suit.

In a related context, the opposition in Slovenia submitted a memorandum to postpone the vote on the file of recognition of the State of Palestine in Parliament, which the government requested for a month.

Since 1988, 139 countries out of 193 countries in the United Nations have recognized the Palestinian state, before the four European countries recently announced their recognition of the Palestinian state.

Israel has repeatedly denounced the moves to recognize a Palestinian state, and claimed that they were a reward for the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), whose military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, along with the resistance factions in Gaza, are engaged in confrontations against the Israeli army’s incursions as part of its ongoing war on the Strip for the 241st day, leaving tens of thousands of martyrs, wounded and destruction.
