These strikes come the day after Russia’s bombing of Ukraine’s second city, Kharkiv, which left at least three people dead.
Russian authorities announced the deaths of six people in Ukrainian drone and missile attacks on Sunday, a day after Russia’s bombing of Ukraine’s second city, Kharkiv, left three people dead and dozens injured in the hospitals.
Five people were killed by falling debris when five Ukrainian missiles were shot down in Sevastopol, a port city in annexed Crimea, said Mikhail Razvozhayev, the city’s governor installed by Moscow. More than 120 people were injured.
One person was killed and three others injured in Russia’s Belgorod region, bordering Ukraine, when three Ukrainian drones attacked the town of Grayvoron, the region’s governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said.
Air defenses shot down 33 Ukrainian drones over the regions of Bryansk, Smolensk, Lipetsk and Tula in western Russia, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday. No casualties or damage were reported.
The attacks come after Russia hit Kharkiv on Saturday afternoon with four aerial bombs, hitting a five-story residential building and killing three people. The region’s governor, Oleh Syniehubov, said 41 people were still being treated for injuries on Sunday.
In a video speech following the attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Ukraine’s partners to strengthen its air defenses.
“Modern air defense systems for Ukraine – such as the Patriot, accelerated training of our pilots for the F-16 and, above all, sufficient range for our weapons – are really necessary”did he declare.
Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk said two people were injured by falling debris when two Russian missiles were shot down over the Kyiv region overnight.
The governor of the partially occupied Donetsk region, Vadym Filashkin, said Saturday’s Russian attacks killed two people and injured four.
