On Thursday, Ukrainian President Folodimir Zellinski appointed Gennadi Shapovalov as commander of the ground forces, after his predecessor resigned after a Russian strike on an army training camp that killed and wounded.
Shapovalov has previously worked as a coordinator of military aid in Germany and took over the leadership of the southern military region of Ukraine.
In his evening intervention, Zellinski said he was counting on “real combat experience” for Shabovalov, calling for changes in the Ukrainian army, which faces difficulties in repelling Russian forces more than 3 years after the start of the Russian -Ukrainian war.
In his evening intervention, Zellinski stressed that “the changes are necessary”, saying, “It is a mandatory issue.”
Russian forces have been making progress on the front lines for more than a year, and they have achieved field gains in the Ukrainian region of Sumi, which has been seeking to occupy it since the beginning of the war.
The peace talks aimed at putting an end to the conflict for weeks after Washington’s focus, the largest ally of Kev, has become on the developments of the situation in the Middle East, especially the Israeli -Iranian confrontation.
Russia says it is open to a peaceful solution, but Kyiv accuses it of deliberately obstructing the talks to prolong the fighting.
