Ukraine: the threatening wishes of Zelensky and Putin


Part of Ukraine spent New Year’s Eve under Russian strikes. During the night from Sunday to Monday, several drone attacks left at least five people dead in the south of the country, in Odessa and Donetsk.

In western Ukraine, in Lviv, the region’s governor said Russian drones had been shot down by anti-aircraft defense systems.

Bombings which testify to a renewed tension between the two countries. Still determined to win the war, and despite the failure of his counter-offensive, President Zelensky promised in his New Year’s speech that Russia would suffer devastation in 2024.

For his part, the Russian president was just as determined in his speech to the Nation. Even if he did not directly mention this war, Vladimir Putin paid tribute to his country’s soldiers, and affirmed that Russia would never back down, after having defended its interests in 2023.

In kyiv, several relatives of soldiers from the Azov regiment gathered to demand their release. These fighters are known to have been taken prisoner by Russia in May 2022, while defending the Azovstal factory located in Mariupol.
