_”I think it’s time to think about some of these restrictions. _Some allies have lifted restrictions. Others did not. My message is that I think we should now consider these restrictions, because by imposing too many restrictions we tie one hand to the Ukrainian armed forces, because they reduce their ability to defend themselves.” declared the NATO Secretary General.
The United States, the main supplier of military aid to Ukraine, and other European countries such as Germany have restricted the use of the weapons they supply to Ukraine to its territory only, Crimea and Donbass.and ban strikes on Russian soil fearing it would draw Europe into a wider war.
However, American Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently estimated, during a trip to kyiv on May 15, that this decision was up to Ukraine. “We did not encourage or favor strikes outside Ukraine, but ultimately it is up to Ukraine to make its decisions on how it fights this war”he said, while Russia regularly warns Westerners against any attack on its territory using Western weapons.
Others say Ukraine needs all the firepower it can get to repel a larger, better-armed and more resourced adversary.
