Leaders, human rights defenders and public figures gathered in Kiyv for the first meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children.

Nearly 20,000 have been deported to Russia since the start of the conflict, according to Ukrainian authorities.

“Russia is deliberately trying to destroy any connection children have with Ukraine, with their loved ones, with their families, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Children are taught lies about Ukraine, lies about this war. Children are given up for illegal adoption, even when they themselves say they have family in Ukraine.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been the subject of an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court since March, accused of war crimes for the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children.
