On the third and final day of the Russian presidential election, the Ukrainian army launched a large drone attack on Russia.
Force the enemy to expand its front line, and above all, be reminded of the good memories of Russian voters on the last day of the presidential election: on the night of Saturday to Sunday, the Ukrainian armed forces launched a new massive wave of drone attacks on Russia. The Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had shot down 35 Ukrainian drones overnight, including four in the Moscow region. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said there were no casualties or damage.
According to the Defense Ministry, two other drones were shot down over the Kaluga region, just south of the Russian capital, and the Yaroslavl region, northeast of Moscow.
The attacks on the Yaroslavl region, located about 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian borderare among the most far-reaching launched by Ukraine so far.
Closer to Ukraine, other drones were shot down over the Russian regions of Belgorod, Kursk and Rostov.
In the southern Krasnodar region, a drone fell on a refinery sparking a fire which was extinguished a few hours later. A refinery employee died of a heart attack, authorities said.
The attacks follow a series of other Ukrainian drone raids and other attacks in recent days, which Vladimir Putin has described as an attempt by Ukraine to scare residents and derail the presidential election Russian.
“These enemy strikes will not go unpunished”the Russian president promised on Friday during his Security Council meeting. “I am sure that our people, the Russian people, will react to this even more cohesively.”
As the war enters its third year, Russian forces have made slow, incremental progress along the front line, relying on their firepower, while Ukraine has responded with more attacks from drones deep inside Russia and cross-border raids.
SATURDAY, two people were killed and three others injured in the Ukrainian bombing of the Russian border town of Belgorod, which is regularly attacked.
The Russian army also claimed to have foiled on Saturday another attempted cross-border incursion carried out by Ukrainian “sabotage and reconnaissance groups”.
The Russian Volunteer Corps – which includes Russians fighting alongside Ukrainian forces – posted a video on social media on Saturday alleging that 25 Russian soldiers reportedly captured. This claim still cannot be independently verified.
Cross-border attacks in the region have occurred sporadically since the start of the war and have been the subject of claims as well as disinformation and propaganda.
