In eastern Ukraine, for the first time since the start of the invasion, Russian forces succeeded in seizing certain streets of Avdiivka.

The small town is considered a gateway to Donetsk, the capital of Donbass annexed by Moscow.

30,000 lived in Avdiika before the Russian invasion, a thousand civilians still survive there.

The advance of Russian forces comes at a time when Emmanuel Macron is in Sweden calling on Europeans to support Ukraine “in the long term”.

Emmanuel Macron, French president: “The cost, the real cost, in the short and long term, of a Russian victory is too high for all of us. That’s why the reasonable response is to put ourselves in a position to support Ukraine during this year and years to come. Whatever it takes, whatever it takes.

Faithful to its principle of neutrality, Switzerland has until now refused any arms deliveries to Ukraine.

This Tuesday, Bern gave entredeux the green light and authorized the delivery to Germany of 25 Leopard 2 tanks.

Germany has transferred tanks to Ukraine and will fill the gap in its army with tanks delivered by Switzerland.
