UE, Arab diplomats fall under Israeli fire in the Jenin of occupying West Bank | News Israel-Palestine Conflict


A diplomatic delegation from the European Union, Arab and Asian nations was the subject of an Israeli fire during the visit of the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Authority and many countries confirm.

Condemnation, calls for the investigation, the ambassadors summoned

Other European and Arab governments have added their own convictions with calls for answers.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye condemned the firing “in the strongest” and said that Ankara called for an immediate investigation and responsibility.

“This attack, which endangered the life of diplomats, is another demonstration of Israel’s systematic contempt for international law and human rights,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that a diplomat on his own consulate in Jerusalem was in the delegation.

The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noel Barrot, said that he would summon the Israeli ambassador to Paris. Barrot, writing on X, called the “unacceptable” incident and said the ambassador would be required to explain.

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said his country also summoned the Israeli ambassador to Madrid. “We demand clarity and responsibility,” he added.

Ireland and Spain were two of the strongest pro-Palestine voices in the EU and called at the end of the Israeli war in Gaza and the suffering of the population in the enclave and in the West Bank.

The government of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni demanded an explanation, saying that his vice-consul was one of those who were criticized. The Israel Ambassador to Italy will be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to explain.
