Our colleagues Wael Al-Dahdouh, Tel Aviv Tribune’s correspondent, and Samer Abu Daqqa, the channel’s cameraman, were injured while covering an Israeli bombing of a school in Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, amid appeals to evacuate the wounded trapped in the vicinity of the school, among whom is still our colleague Samer.
Tel Aviv Tribune correspondent Heba Akila said that colleagues Wael and Samer were injured while working in the vicinity of Farhana School, which was targeted by the occupation forces on Friday morning.
She added that the two colleagues were injured by fragments of a missile fired by an Israeli reconnaissance plane.
She explained that colleague Wael was injured in the arm and was transferred to Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis to receive treatment.
As for Fellow photographer Samer Abu Daqqa is still lying on the ground and trapped in the vicinity of Farhana School in Khan Yunis, while explosions ring out near the school, according to what Tel Aviv Tribune’s correspondent reported.
Ambulance teams were unable to evacuate the wounded from the place.
Targeting journalists
The International Federation of Journalists said it was deeply shocked by the injury of colleagues Wael Al-Dahdouh and Samer Abu Daqqa.
The Union renewed its call on the Israeli forces to protect the lives of journalists.
About 90 journalists have been martyred since the start of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, amid journalistic and human rights associations denouncing what they describe as the direct targeting of journalists and photographers for the purpose of obscuring the facts.
Tel Aviv Tribune Media Network previously condemned “a series of deliberate targeting of the families of the network’s correspondents and those working with it in the sector, to pressure them with the aim of concealing the truth and concealing the crimes committed by the occupation army.”
Members of the family of our colleague Wael Al-Dahdouh – including his wife, son and daughter – were martyred in an Israeli bombing that targeted a house to which they were displaced in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip on October 25 last.
Last Monday, Israeli occupation aircraft bombed the family home of Tel Aviv Tribune journalist Anas Al-Sharif in the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip, which led to the death of his father. The bombing came after threats Al-Sharif received from the occupation army.
The parents of Al-Jazeera colleague Moamen Al-Sharafi, as well as a number of his brothers and their children, were also martyred in the Israeli occupation bombing of Jabalia camp.
Likewise, 19 people from the family of Al-Jazeera colleague Muhammad Abu Al-Qumsan were martyred, including his father and two of his sisters, in a massacre in Jabalia camp as well.
