An explosion at an arms factory in western Turkey killed at least 11 people and injured five on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at an explosives factory in Balıkesir province in Turkey’s Marmara region, according to state-run Anadolu Agency.

Balıkesir Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu said that the explosion had caused one of the main production buildings to collapse, and the surrounding buildings had suffered minor damage.

“We believe that no other people are inside. The injured are in stable condition. The explosion occurred for technical reasons, there is no possibility of sabotage”says İsmail Ustaoğlu.

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç writes on four prosecutors were tasked with investigating the causes of the explosion.

He adds that“a committee made up of 5 experts – including engineers in chemistry, mechanics, occupational safety and geophysics – was tasked with determining the cause of the explosion”.
