The American president renews his call to Iran to end the support of the Yemeni group who targeted Israel for his war in Gaza.

Washington, DC – Donald Trump has renewed his call to Iran to end his support for the Houthis, committing to the Yemeni group to be defeated by the United States.

The comments of the American president on Wednesday came one day after the Houthis affirmed attacks targeting American warships in the Red Sea region, as well as a launch of missiles against Israel.

On Wednesday, on Wednesday also marked American strikes on Houthi bastions in Yemen, whose capital, Sanaa.

“Huge damage has been inflicted on the Houthis barbarians and look at how it is gradually worse – it’s not even a fair fight, and will never be,” wrote Trump in an article on social networks. “They will be completely wiped!”

This month, the United States has launched several waves of attacks on the Houthis, which control Sanaa and present themselves as the country’s official armed forces.

Since 2023, Houthis have been targeting ships in and around the Red Sea and launched missiles in Israel in an effort, they say, to put pressure on the Israeli government to end the war against Gaza.

The group interrupted its Red Sea attacks during the Gaza truce but restarted them earlier this month, in response to the blockade of Israel on humanitarian aid to Palestinian territory.

The Houthis also resumed their direct military operations against Israel after the Israeli army broke a two-month-old ceasefire, killing hundreds of Palestinians this week.

The administration of former American president Joe Biden also bombed Houthi posts in Yemen, but the Washington campaign failed to stop the group’s attacks.

In his article on social networks on Wednesday, Trump quoted “reports” saying that Iran reduces its support for Houthis but “always sends high supplies”.

“Iran must immediately stop sending these supplies,” he wrote. “Let the Houthis fight themselves. Anyway, they lose, but in this way they lose quickly.”

Trump had previously threatened Iran with reprisals if it did not brake in the Houthis.

Although the Houthis – officially known as Ansar Allah – are allied with Iran, it is not clear how much they count on Iranian support or so Tehran can order them to stop their attacks.

But Trump described the Houthis as an arm of the Iranian government.

“Each blow by the Houthis will be considered, from that moment, as a blow from Iran’s arms and leaders, and Iran will be held responsible, and will suffer the consequences, and these consequences will be disastrous,” wrote Trump on social networks on Saturday, when the last American bombing campaign started.

For their part, the Houthis rejected American threats and air strikes, promising to continue their attacks until Israel ends its assault against Gaza.

“The Yemeni armed forces claim that the American aggression will not dissuade the unshakable Yemen and in difficulty of fulfilling its religious, moral and humanitarian duties towards the Palestinian people,” the group said in a statement on Tuesday.

“They claim that they will increase their military operations against the Zionist enemy unless the sudden assault of Gaza stops and that the blockade is not lifted.”

Trump has put the Houthis on black list as a “foreign terrorist organization” in the first days of his presidency this year. The Biden administration had described the group “specially designated world terrorists” – a slightly lower designation which involves less restrictions.
