US President Donald Trump decided to postpone the summit that was scheduled between the United States and Africa in conjunction with the United Nations General Assembly next month.
According to sources, I spoke to the “Africa Report” website, the issue of the summit is no longer proposed due to the preoccupation of the American administration and the lack of employees, and at the present time the White House has no time to hold a meeting hosting as huge from presidents and officials.
According to the same sources, the summit is likely to postpone until the spring of next year, to be held in Washington, DC instead of New York.
Earlier this year, a senior US State Department official said that the US -African Summit will be held this year under various topics, and will discuss investment and economic cooperation instead of wars and armed conflicts.
But as the Gaza war and the conflict in Ukraine continued, the summit lost its momentum due to the administration’s preoccupation with the White House, and the crew concerned with Africa has become exhausted due to the follow -up of the files of Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Davir Mont, the former director of African Affairs at the National Security Council, said during the Biden administration that the postponement of the summit may cause shock and deepen the state of skepticism about considering Africa a priority, but it was the right decision, as it could have turned into a catastrophe if organized in an improvised manner.
If the summit is not held this year, the president will violate legislation issued in December 2024 to hold a summit between the United States and Africa every two years, but Trump is not known for his strict commitment to laws, and he may argue that the mini meeting he held last July with the heads of Gabon, Guinea -Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania and Senegal fulfills this commitment.
