In several European cities, many people paid tribute to Russian opponent Alexeï Navalny, who was buried on Friday in Moscow.

In Paris, flowers and candles were brought to the war memorial on Place du Trocadéro, with photos of the Kremlin opponent and slogans accusing Vladimir Putin.

In several other cities, improvised memorials have been erected near Russian embassies or consulates. In the Serbian capital, Belgrade, hundreds of people gathered with banners: “Heroes never die”. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, tens of thousands of Russians settled in Serbia.

In Rome, activists “renamed” the street where the Russian embassy is located. They placed sheets of paper with the inscription “Via Navalny” (Navalny Street) on the road signs facing the embassy. An initiative was launched to officially rename the street (via Gaeta), but it was rejected by the municipality of Rome. However, the authorities are considering another location for a street dedicated to Alexeï Navalny.
