Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International accuse Greece of not having done enough to rescue migrants whose boat capsized in June, killing at least 750 people.
Two major human rights groups, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, accuse Greek authorities of not having investigated too thoroughly the circumstances of the tragic sinking of a migrant boat six months ago. Hundreds of people died.
According to survivors, help arrived too late and was ineffective. The report by the two NGOs concludes that the Greek authorities “did not do enough” to investigate the alleged failure of rescue efforts.
It is estimated that around 750 people, mostly from Syria, Pakistan and Egypt, were on board a small vessel which capsized near the coast of Greece on June 14.
Only 104 people were rescued and 82 bodies were found.
