The Israeli army is currently carrying out its seventh day of massive raids across the occupied West Bank, including in Jenin, a city home to nearly 50,000 people.
The largest Israeli attack on the occupied territories since the second intifada in the early 2000s has left dozens of Palestinians dead, at a time when Israel is also engaged in a devastating war against Gaza.
Palestinians in the occupied territory are now struggling to obtain basic necessities, including food and water, following the massive destruction carried out by Israeli forces in Jenin.
Let’s take a look at each of the seven days of raids:
August 28
Israel launched the largest raids in the occupied West Bank in more than two decades, targeting Jenin, Tulkarm and Tubas, killing at least 10 people.
The assaults, which began in the early hours of Wednesday, involved hundreds of ground troops advancing in bulldozers and armoured vehicles, supported by fighter jets and bomb-dropping drones.
August 29
Access to hospitals was blocked by heavily armed Israeli forces with earth barriers, while other medical facilities were surrounded by troops.
The death toll rose to at least 18, including eight Palestinians killed in Jenin province. Dozens more were injured in the three main areas attacked.
The Israeli army called for reinforcements and Palestinian sources reported that at least 25 people were arrested in occupied areas over the previous 24 hours.
August 30
The Israeli army withdrew from Tulkarem and Tubas after leaving a trail of destruction, but intensified its attacks on Jenin, with the death toll rising to 21.
At least three people were killed early Friday after Israeli forces attacked a car in the village of Zababdeh, south of Jenin.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the occupied areas said the bodies of the three people were taken away by Israeli forces. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said Israeli forces prevented ambulances from reaching the scene of the attack.
August 31
Israeli forces blew up houses in the al-Jabriyat neighborhood of Jenin refugee camp, as paramedics struggled to contact and reach victims after telecommunications were blocked.
Tel Aviv Tribune journalist Nour Odeh said in Jenin on Saturday: “Jenin is a ghost town. All the shops are closed. No one leaves their homes.”
The Israeli army announced on Saturday the first death of a soldier in clashes with Palestinian fighters since the start of the raids.
September 1st
Israeli forces continued to forcibly evacuate Palestinian families from their homes, including those living in the Abdullah Azzam neighborhood in Jenin camp. Families from the ad-Damj, al-Suha and al-Faluja neighborhoods were also forcibly displaced, according to the Wafa news agency.
The agency reported that in the camp’s main square, Israeli forces arrested residents and interrogated them on the ground during large-scale raids, searches and detentions.
The Jenin municipality provided a clearer picture of the large-scale destruction caused by Israeli forces, which killed at least 24 Palestinians at that time and displaced thousands.
According to the municipality, the Israeli army:
- Nearly 70 percent of the city’s streets were razed.
- Destroyed 20 km (12.4 miles) of its water and sewer networks.
- 80% of Jenin refugee camp is without access to water.
September 2
A Palestinian teenage girl was killed by Israeli gunfire in Kafr Dan, west of Jenin, according to the PRCS, which said that emergency services were unable to reach the 16-year-old girl for more than half an hour as she bled to death. Another Palestinian youth was also wounded in the thigh by live ammunition from Israeli forces.
Israeli troops handed over to Palestinian health authorities the body of a Palestinian arrested an hour earlier in Kafr Dan. Ayman Rajeh Abed, 58, was arrested at dawn and his body arrived handcuffed and bearing signs of torture, according to Wissam Bakr, director of the government hospital in Jenin.
Israeli forces and bulldozers attacked a group of journalists as they covered the destruction of a roundabout and surrounding shops, and opened fire directly on them, injuring many.
Last night, Israeli soldiers also stopped an ambulance crew as it was transporting an emergency medical case to the government hospital in Jenin and assaulted several of them.
September 3
The occupation forces continued to destroy downtown Jenin, with bulldozers razing Cinema Street and large parts of Hospital Street to the area around al-Shifa Hospital.
They also destroyed shops and roads in the Cinema Roundabout and Post Street area, which had also been heavily targeted earlier in the raid.
Wafa said two of its photojournalists were shot and wounded by Israeli soldiers in Kafr Dan.

On Tuesday at dawn, Israeli forces stormed the village of Muthalath al-Shuhada, south of Jenin. According to reports, they deployed snipers on the roofs of several houses, raided six houses and arrested a number of citizens before withdrawing from the town.
At least 22 other Palestinians were arrested in the 24 hours leading up to 12:00 p.m. (0900 GMT) on Tuesday, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society and the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission.
