These Europeans who fight against poverty

Published on :

A Eurobarometer survey published at the beginning of December revealed that European citizens consider the fight against poverty and social exclusion to be their main priorities ahead of the European elections next June.

The chain of crises, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the impacts of the war in Ukraine and the rise in the cost of living have had a strong impact on the standard of living of the most modest households. According to Eurostat, 95 million Europeans live on less than 60% of their country’s median income, in a home far from employment or in material insecurity. This trend has been increasing for three years.

If the European Union is committed to drastically reducing the rate of monetary poverty, this promise was not kept in 2010 nor in 2020. In 2030, the objective of reducing the number of Europeans in poverty by 15 million precariousness already seems out of reach.

Report on individual and collective initiatives in Romania, Spain and France which are fighting to make a Europe more inclusive and trying to offer a better future to their fellow citizens in precarious situations.
