Yesterday, Thursday, the International Court of Justice in The Hague heard South Africa’s plea in its claim against Israel for committing genocide crimes against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and the need to stop the ongoing war there.

The South African legal team for the trial of Israel in The Hague – according to a report broadcast by Tel Aviv Tribune – consists of law professors, members of human rights organizations, and lawyers specialized in international law and human rights, and they are:

John Dugard

  • He worked as a special judge at the International Court of Justice.

Adela Hassim (Adila Hassim)

  • A former judge and member of the Johannesburg Bar Association.
  • Member of a human rights organization in South Africa.

Tembeka Ngcukaitobi

  • Prominent lawyer.
  • Member of the Johannesburg Bar Association.
  • Member of the Judicial Service Committee.

Max du Plessis

  • A lawyer specializing in public law, human rights and international law.

Tshidiso Ramogale

  • A lawyer specializing in human rights cases.
  • He worked in the Constitutional Court (Human Rights Committee).

Sarah Podvin Jones

  • A lawyer specializing in public law.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa commented on his country’s plea in The Hague, saying that he had never felt as proud as he feels today, stressing that the goal of opening a lawsuit against Israel in the International Court of Justice is to stop the genocide in the Gaza Strip.
