The US Treasury announced the issuance of a public license to alleviate some sanctions imposed on Syria, while Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al -Shaibani promised “more successes.”
A ministry statement said that the general license on Syria provides immediate exemption of sanctions in line with the announcement of Trump to stop all sanctions on Damascus.
The license also allows prohibited transactions and effectively raises penalties, and it will allow empowerment of investment and private sector activity in line with the President’s strategy, “America first”.
The ministry said that its decisions are granted exemptions under the “Caesar Law”, which enables the partners of the United States, the allies and the countries of the region to unleash the capabilities of Syria more.
The statement stated that the United States is committed to supporting Syria stable, united and living in internal peace and with its neighbors, adding that the extension of the mitigation of US sanctions came to include the new Syrian government on the basis of its commitment to not providing a safe haven for terrorist organizations and ensuring the protection of minorities.

The first step
The Associated Press reported that US officials are expected to start the first step of the steps to exempt Syria from sanctions on Friday or Tuesday.
The agency said that US President Donald Trump’s advisors are proposing to exempt Syria from the sanctions 6 months as part of the steps to lift it permanently as Trump pledged, and that officials support the expansion of the rules of the Treasury regarding what foreign companies can work in Syria.
In the same context, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al -Shaibani said, “We promise our people with more successes in the coming months after successive decisions to lift the sanctions.”
He added, “Syria deserves a great position, a prosperous country, and an representation befitting it on the international scene.”
The US President announced the lifting of sanctions on Syria, and the Syrian Foreign Ministry welcomed the Trump decision, and considered it a “encouraging step towards ending the suffering of the Syrian people.”
The new authorities in Damascus have been calling, since assuming power, the international community to lift the sanctions imposed on major sectors and institutions in the country since the outbreak of the revolution in 2011, and considers it an essential step to recover the economy and start the reconstruction phase.
