The UN says that its food stocks in Gaza completely “exhausted” in the middle of the Israeli blockade | News Israel-Palestine Conflict

The UN World Food Program (WFP) claims that its food stocks in Gaza are completely exhausted, while Israel’s help blockade has continued for an eighth week.

On Friday, in a press release, the WFP confirmed that it had “delivered its last remaining food actions” to Gaza to local kitchens, which provides that food will be entirely “in the coming days”.

More than 400,000 people in Gaza are counting on PAM assistance, leaving them little appeal in the event of failure of this rescue buoy, the Palestine representative of the organization, Antoine Renard, in Tel Aviv Tribune told Palestine.

“We (local NGOs) are all short,” he said. “We are exhausted.”

Since March 2, Israel has completely blocked all help supplies, including food, drugs and fuel from the entry to Gaza, defying a world court order in 2024 to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid.

According to WFP, food stored during a ceasefire almost two months earlier this year have been widely exhausted, while the price of little food on the free market jumped 1,400%.

Reporting Gaza City, Hani Mahmoud, Tel Aviv Tribune, said hunger and malnutrition were widespread.

“People are hungry. They are already rationing supplies,” he said. “It is not only organizations, they are also lacking in supplies.”

It is “difficult to imagine” how hundreds of thousands of families who have relied on the daily meals provided by the WFP “will get out,” he added.

The Gaza Government Media Bureau has warned that the drop in food supplies could push “thousands of Palestinian families” in famine.

He reported that 52 people, including 50 children, already died due to hunger and malnutrition, while more than a million children are hungry every day.

‘Intolerable’

Despite the humanitarian crisis, Israel has not shown no sign of the blockade inversion. Last week, the Minister of Defense Israel Katz said that Israel would continue to block aid, describing it as a tactic to “put pressure” in Hamas.

The Israeli army has repeatedly accused Hamas of exploiting aid – an assertion that the group denies – and argues that it must prevent all supplies to prevent combatants from obtaining it.

However, even some of the closest allies of Israel have publicly condemned the strategy. On Wednesday, Germany, France and the United Kingdom collectively called “intolerable” action and warned that this increases the risk of “hunger, epidemic disease and death”.

Israeli attacks kill dozens

While the food crisis was deepening, the Israeli attacks continued through the enclave beaten by the war. At least 78 people have been killed in the past 24 hours, the Gaza government media office announced on Friday. This included 15 victims of aerial raids on houses in Khan Younis, and a woman killed by a quadcopter attack near the Jabalia refugee camp, according to local media.

Meanwhile, the efforts continued to relaunch the cease-fire talks in Cairo, where a delegation from Hamas was to meet Egyptian officials on Saturday.

The head of Hamas, Taher al-Nununu, told AFP that the group’s delegation in Cairo would be led by Khalil al-Hayya. He reiterated that Hamas’ weapons “are not for negotiation”.

Until now, truce’s effort has been deadlocked, Hamas insisting on a permanent ceasefire and Israel offering only temporary trues and demanding that Hamas disarm.

But the mediators began to work on a proposal which would include a truce of five to seven years after the release of all the captives in Gaza and the end of the fighting, reported Reuters, citing several lit sources.

Since the cease-fire collapsed on March 18, Israeli attacks killed more than 1,900 Palestinians, including many civilians, according to the health authorities in Gaza, and hundreds of thousands of people were moved when Israel has grasped what he calls a buffer area.

At least 51,439 people were killed and 117,416 wounded in the War of Israel against Gaza since its start in October 2023, according to the Palestinian authorities.
