The UN says that each child under the age of five in Gaza is at risk of malnutrition | News Israel-Palestine Conflict

The warning comes as the Gaza Ministry of Health records more cases of paralysis due to malnutrition caused by the Israeli blockade.

The United Nations warned that all Gaza children under the age of five are at risk of potentially fatal malnutrition, in the midst of increasing death reports of famine while Israel continues to block the seizure of the besieged Gaza Strip.

The United Nations Food World Program said that children in this age group – around 320,000 – were affected by the collapse of nutrition services and do not have access to safe water, breast milk substitutes and therapeutic food.

The pediatrician Seema Jilani told Tel Aviv Tribune that malnutrition “affects their whole body”, putting children at risk of multi-organization failure. She also said that famine in Gaza is traumatic for children and that “development milestones will be missed”.

Gaza hospitals recorded six new deaths by famine and malnutrition in the past 24 hours on Monday, including a child, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. The total number of people who died of hunger causes since the start of the war is now 181, including 94 children.

The ministry also sounded the alarm of a “serious escalation” in the event of acute sweet paralysis in children due to “infections and acute malnutrition”.

In a statement, he said that he had so far recorded three deaths of Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare condition which causes sudden numbness and muscle weakness in most of the body.

Entrance of more than 22,000 blocked aid trucks

The Gaza government said ISRAEL deliberately prevented more than 22,000 humanitarian aid trucks from entering the territory as part of a systematic campaign of “famine, seat and chaos”. Palestinian territory has been under the total Israeli blocking since March 2, shortly before Israel ends a two-month ceasefire and has taken over attacks.

Mosab al-Dibs, 14, has been at Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City for about two months after undergoing a serious head of the head when an Israeli air raid hit his family’s tent in May.

The boy is largely paralyzed and seriously poorly nourished because the installation no longer has supplies to feed him. “Mosab is now suffering from serious malnutrition,” said his mother, Shahinaz al-Dibs. “He suffers from convulsions following a blow that affected his brain. Even his nerves are steep.”

The situation in Gaza was simply catastrophic.

In a school that has become a tile for Palestinians in the north of Gaza, Samah Matar said that his sons – Yousef, six years old and Amir, four years old – have brain paralysis and need a special diet.

Youssef weighed 14 kg (31 lb) before the war. Now it weighs 9 kg (20 lb). Amir, who weighed 9 kg (20 lb), is now less than 6 kg (13 lb). “Before the war, their health was excellent,” she said. “Now there is no baby formula or diapers, and I can barely find flour for them. Sugar, the main ingredient of their meals, is not available. ”

Ahmad Alhendawi, director of the Middle East of Save The Children International, told Tel Aviv Tribune that the situation in Gaza was “nothing less than catastrophic”.

“This represents almost four months of this blockade, from famine that was built in the weeks and months, and to return from this point of malnutrition and extreme famine, it takes a sustained supply of food and medical equipment as well as food supplements for children in need,” he said.

The organization said that more than four in 10 women (43%) pregnant and breastfed in search of treatment in its clinics in Gaza in July were malnourished.

The rate was almost three times higher in March, when Israel reprinted a total seat on Gaza. The infantile formula was not allowed to enter the band.

“It is possible to reverse some (damage caused to children by hunger),” said Alhendawi. “But I am afraid that some of these damage will be irreversible at this stage.”
