Hoor Nusseir lost his parents, brothers and hands in an Israeli bombing of Deir el-Balah.
Deir el-Balah, Gaza – Little Hoor Nusseir, with her frightened and bewildered eyes, sits on a bed in the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital and looks around.
She is treated after being the only survivor rescued from the rubble of the family home.
His family, including his father, mother and three brothers, were killed when an Israeli bomb landed near their home in Deir el-Balah on January 27.
Hoor is only a year and a half old and she has a lot to recover from, as her tragedy goes beyond the loss of her family.
Doctors had to completely amputate his left hand as well as the fingers of his right hand. She also has numerous injuries to her head and legs.
She started crying and shaking as she looked at the people gathered around her and her aunt, Fatima Nusseir, trying to comfort her.
“She is seriously shocked and afraid of unfamiliar faces,” Fatima told Tel Aviv Tribune.
The 24-year-old stays with Hoor at the hospital to care for her while she is treated.
“Hoor cries for his mother all night. She says a lot of things that I don’t understand, but I understand when she says: “Mom! Mom !’ “, said Fatima in tears.
“I take care of her all day, but no one can replace her mother and father. My heart aches for her.
Doctors at Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Hospital say Hoor needs additional surgeries and treatments, some of which cannot be found in Gaza, so she may have to go, among other things, to have a prosthesis fitted to replace his missing hand.
“What she endured is unbearable for any adult, let alone a child,” says Fatima. It is difficult to distract or comfort the child, given the nature of his injuries.
“Hoor can’t catch a toy because of her amputations,” her aunt explains, trying to find a way to distract her.
“Losing a hand at a young age, along with your family, especially your mother, is devastating. »
Hoor was a happy and sociable child, says Fatima. But now her mental health has suffered greatly and she finds it difficult to cope with the presence of others around her.
She cries almost constantly and it is difficult to calm her down.
“Hoor was not yet weaned, so she relied even more on her mother.
“Why should this child suffer such a loss when she desperately needs her parents? Fatima lamented.
