The Al-Jaleel Society for Care and Community Rehabilitation has provided essential services to the Palestinians with disabilities of the Jenin refugee camp for decades. But now, after repeated Israeli attacks, the center has been destroyed and its staff discovered that it is in a demolition area designated by the Israelis.
The staff of Al-Jaleel received no official notice, but in early June, the Israeli army published an air card showing several buildings in the region which were to be destroyed, including the rehabilitation center.
Zaid Am-Ali, responsible for defending Palestine operations to humanity and inclusion, the partner organization of Al-Jaleel, told Tel Aviv Tribune that the reason why the organizations had been given was that the area was assured for military and security purposes.
“This is not the first time that the center has been targeted, the Israeli army has destroyed parties during previous demolition acts in the refugee camp and has broken and entered the center and falsified assistance devices for disabled,” said AM-Ali.
Tel Aviv Tribune contacted the Israeli army but did not receive any response at the time of publication.
Support thousands of Palestinians
Al-Jaleel is a “critical rescue buoy,” said Am-Ali, describing how the demolition of the center would deprive the vulnerable communities of Jenin and the northwest of its essential services.
It was created in 1991 as a local rehabilitation committee, which became an independent NGO in 2010 under the name of Al-Jaleel.
Since he opened its doors for the first time, Al-Jaleel has provided thousands of Palestinians a wide range of support and services, in particular those with mobility disorders resulting from injuries, diseases or trauma linked to conflicts.
In addition to prostheses, orthotics and physical and ergoded therapies, Al-Jaleel also offers psychological support for people affected by disability and continuous violent assaults perpetrated by the Israeli army, which has regularly attacks Jenin for years, but has intensified operations since the beginning of 2025.
“It is the same area that has been the subject of an Israeli military operation in progress for years now, causing many victims and damage to civil infrastructure,” said AM-Ali.
Al-Jaleel’s ability to operate and provide care was seriously compromised in April when an Israeli attack damaged the building.
Although the staff has since moved and started to operate from another place due to their trip to the camp, they have not yet been authorized to reintegrate the organization’s original building to recover any equipment that was spared during the April attack.
The staff were informed that they would be authorized to evacuate their equipment on July 12, but were not allowed to do so by the Israeli army.
It is not known when or if the staff will be able to collect the personal effects of Al-Jaleel before the demolition takes place. The area has now declared a closed military area, Al-Jaleel staff are denied information on the status of the building.
At the time of writing, the center was not demolished, but other nearby buildings were demolished.
Violence in Jenin
Violence in Jenin has increased considerably since January 21, when the Israeli army launched “Iron Wall operation” in the city and in the nearby refugee camp.
According to Israeli forces, the operation is an “anti -terrorism” offensive, trying to crush Palestinian resistance efforts in the region.
The Israeli army has tried for years to steal any form of armed resistance in occupied West Bank, carrying out raids which have increased in gravity since the start of the War of Israel against Gaza in October 2023. At least 1,000 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces or settlers or colonists.
“Operation Iron Wall” – targeting the Palestinian fighters in the North West Bank – started in Jenin, but has since spread to the Tulkarem, Nur Shams and Al -Fara refugee camps.
On March 22, only 60 days after the start of the offensive, the United Nations Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) reported that 40,000 Palestinian refugees had been moved from refugee camps in northern West Bank.
In addition, earlier this year, the Israeli authorities announced that they were planning to completely erase the Jenin refugee camp.
Since then, Israeli bulldozers have demolished commercial buildings and houses at an alarming rate.
Wafa, the Palestinian press agency, reported on June 30 that more than 600 houses and 15 roads in Jenin camp had been demolished.
On June 17, the Israeli Supreme Court rejected a petition filed by Adalah, a legal center for the rights of Palestinian minorities in Israel on June 12 to stop the demolition of the Jenin refugee camp.
The Supreme Court authorized the Israeli army to destroy nearly 90 civil buildings that housed hundreds of Palestinian families.
“The decision of the Israeli Supreme Court to maintain these operations, including its rejection of May 7, 2025 of the Adalah petition against mass demolitions in the refugee camps of Nur Shams and Tulkarem, provides coverage of false legal for policies of forced travel and rooted impunity,” said Adalah.

The potential demolition of Al-Jaleel is part of a wider scheme of Israeli attacks against Palestinian health care institutions.
The targeting of health establishments, medical staff and patients was spread during the War of Israel against Gaza. These actions are considered to be war crimes under the Geneva Convention in 1949. Israel justified attacks as part of its fight against Hamas and other armed groups, accusing them, without any overwhelming evidence, of using health establishments as coverage for their bases and operations.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 94% of all Gaza hospitals are damaged or destroyed.
Between October 7, 2023 and July 2, 2025, which recorded 863 attacks on health care in the West Bank. These attacks assigned 203 institutions and 589 health transport
In a statement to Tel Aviv Tribune, which indicated that, out of the 476 government health service units evaluated by WHO and partners in the West Bank in June 2025, only 345 are fully functional, 112 are partially functional, nine are non -functional and 1 has been destroyed.
This, according to Am-Ali, is neglected in the middle of the understandable accent on Gaza, where Israel killed more than 58,000 Palestinians. And this allows Israel to get away with its devastation of Palestinian life in the West Bank and its destruction of vital centers like Al-Jaleel.
“These developments are not isolated incidents and are in clear violation of international law, in particular the prohibition of the acquisition of territory by force under the Charter of the United Nations and the Fourth Geneva Convention,” he said.
