The Security Council adopts a resolution to protect relief workers in conflict areas News

Today, Friday, the United Nations Security Council adopted a draft resolution on the protection of humanitarian workers and United Nations employees in conflict areas.

14 countries voted in favor of the resolution, which was submitted by Switzerland, out of 15 members, while Russia abstained from voting.

The resolution calls on all states to respect and protect humanitarian workers, United Nations staff and associated individuals, including national and local staff.

The resolution calls on all parties in conflict areas to fully comply with their obligations under international human rights laws.

The resolution also calls on all member states to investigate violations of the law committed against humanitarian workers and United Nations employees.

Commenting on the resolution, the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, said that the Security Council adopted a resolution that can be described as mainly targeting the barbaric behavior of the Israeli occupation authority in the Gaza Strip.

He stated that the resolution calls in more than one paragraph to stop the aggression, protect civilians, international employees and United Nations workers, hold accountable and prevent incitement to violence and genocide by Israeli officials.

He added that the adoption of the resolution obligates Israel to adopt a new resolution to protect civilians and international personnel, to provide all the necessities of life to the citizens of the Gaza Strip in sufficient volume and with the required speed, and to cease fire to protect civilians and save innocent lives.

In its ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip, the occupation targeted several times relief crews and employees of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

On April 2, the Israeli army killed 6 foreigners and a Palestinian in a bombing that targeted a car belonging to the World Central Kitchen organization in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.
