The Riyadh summit delegation expressed – today, Saturday – its dissatisfaction with Washington’s use of its veto power in the UN Security Council against a resolution calling for the second time for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons in the Gaza Strip. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan also stated that the level of the massacre in Gaza Unprecedented or justified.

The dissatisfaction of the Arab-Islamic ministerial delegation appointed by the Riyadh summit came during a discussion session held with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Washington, and they stressed their demand that the United States assume its responsibilities and take the necessary measures to push the Israeli occupation towards an immediate ceasefire.

The Ministerial Committee delegation was headed by the Saudi Foreign Minister, with the participation of his Qatari counterparts Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Jordanian Ayman Al-Safadi, Egyptian Sameh Shukri, Palestinian Riyad Al-Maliki, and Turkish Hakan Fidan.

‘Shocking massacre’

The Saudi Foreign Minister told the American “PBS” television network that the massacre in Gaza cannot be justified under any pretext of self-defense.

Bin Farhan stressed that the pictures of dead children in Gaza are shocking and angering not only Arabs, but all over the world, pointing out that the continuation of the military operation in Gaza does not serve the interests of any party, including Israel.

For his part, the Turkish Foreign Minister said that America is the only one that continues to support the war on Gaza, and he added that the ministerial delegation expressed in its meeting with Blinken that the American political system has become impotent with regard to Israel, so Tel Aviv is acting recklessly and continues to suppress it, as he put it.

Israeli gratitude

In Israel, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen thanked the United States for using its veto in the UN Security Council and for continuing its support for the war in the Gaza Strip.

Cohen repeated the Israeli attack on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, because of his demands to stop the Israeli war on Gaza, saying that Guterres sides with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

It is noteworthy that this is the second time that Washington has used its veto against a draft Security Council resolution on Gaza, as it used it for the first time last November against a draft Council resolution submitted by Brazil, which called for a humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, the Arab-Islamic ministerial delegation heads to visit Canada, as part of a tour aimed at building an international consensus to end the war on Gaza.
