Speaking on Saturday at the Munich on security conference, the president of the European Council, António Costa, said that Europe did not give up its support for Ukraine.

“We will continue to support Ukraine in negotiations, providing security guarantees, in reconstruction and as the future member of the European Union”.

He insisted on the importance of including Ukraine in future peace negotiations and on the fact that it alone can define the conditions for negotiation with Russia,

“Supposing concessions before any negotiation is a huge mistake.”

Mr. Costa’s statement reflects the feeling of the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who also spoke during the conference earlier during the day.

Olaf Scholz stressed thatNothing should be decided about Ukraine without the participation of the Ukrainians. He added that Kyiv could not be alone and that he needed continuous support from the EU and the United States.

The president of the European Council added that Any future agreement should not be limited to a “simple ceasefire”, But that it should guarantee that Russia ceases to be a threat to international security.

“He must not reward the attacker. He must guarantee that Russia will no longer be a threat to Ukraine, Europe and its neighbors.”

This declaration only one day comes before the American vice-president JD Vance criticized the approach of European governments in matters of democracy.

Mr. Vance said that the greatest threat to Europe’s security was not Russia or China, but rather a “Inner threat” due to a “Recoil of Europe in relation to some of its most fundamental values, the values it shares with the United States of America”.

On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned Europe that “Time is over where America supported Europe simply because it had always done it”, And said it was time to create “Europe’s armed forces.”

“A few days ago, President Trump told me about his conversation with Putin. Not once he only mentioned America needed Europe at the table. That said a lot.”he added.

According to the Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, a meeting on European defense could take place in Paris on Monday. No details have yet been confirmed.
