Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi told Tel Aviv Tribune that Jordan remains opposed to the Trump takeover plan in Gaza.
Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi told Tel Aviv Tribune that the kingdom would not move in his opposition to the proposal of the American president Donald Trump to move the Palestinians to Gaza to other countries, such as Jordan and the ‘Egypt.
His comments come after the king of Jordan, Abdullah II, met Trump in the White House on Tuesday, where the latter reiterated during a press briefing that the United States would take control of the besieged Gaza Strip emptied from Its residents, according to a proposal from criticism, it is indeed ethnic cleaning, the forced expulsion of people of their homeland.
“There are fixed and firm Jordanian posts that will not change … Palestinians cannot be transferred to Egypt, Jordan or to any Arab state,” said Safadi in an interview with Tel Aviv Tribune.
“We will work for a just peace, which cannot take place without the implementation of the two -state solution which guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people, in particular their right for freedom and for an independent sovereign state on their Palestinian homeland . “
Jordan and Egypt have refused to accept the Palestinians forcibly moved. The Palestinian authority, Hamas and the Arab nations have all been united in their inflexible opposition in Trump’s plan. China has also declared firmly: “Gaza belongs to the Palestinians”.
During the meeting with Trump, Abdullah avoided directly against Trump, rather alluding to an alternative plan which will soon be revealed by Egypt.
When asked if Jordan would welcome the displaced Palestinians from Gaza, the Jordanian chief said he would do what was “best” for his country. He added that Jordan would take 2,000 sick Palestinian children who need medical treatment.
Jordan is currently hosting more than 2 million Palestinian refugees in its population of 11 million inhabitants.
Safadi said that the Arab states are now working to formulate a plan to rebuild Gaza “without transferring its people”, which will be presented once it is ready.
“The American president presented some ideas. And, His Majesty presented some ideas, “he said. “We will work with the American president to build Gaza without transferring his people.”
Trump on Tuesday, Trump stressed again that the Palestinians would not want to stay in Gaza, apparently rejecting their deep attachment to their land.
Critics say that his vision of Gaza – refurbished with hotels, offices and a “riviera” atmosphere – seems divorced from the region’s policy and that this is not another real estate opportunity. The Palestinians have long resisted the pressures to force them from their remaining territory, despite decades of continuous Israeli occupation and bombardment.
