Hani Al-Masdar Abu Al-Abd, coach of the Palestinian Olympic football team and one of the stars of the game in Palestine, was martyred in an air strike launched by the Israeli occupation on Gaza City.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, which entered its 92nd day, left more than 22,000 martyrs and 58,000 injured, most of them children and women, massive destruction of infrastructure, and an unprecedented humanitarian disaster.
The Palestinian Football Association mourned the martyrdom of Hani Abu Al-Abd, in a post on its official Facebook page.
The obituary statement stated, “Lieutenant General Gabriel Rajoub, President of the Palestinian Football Association, the Federation family, and the entire Palestinian sports family, with the most sincere feelings of sadness and pain, at the martyrdom of the former Palestinian football star, general coach of the National Olympic Team, Hani Al-Masdar Abu Al-Abd.”
The statement explained that “Abu Al-Abd rose to prominence as a result of the occupation’s aggression against the Gaza Strip, which has continued for the third month, joining the constellation of football martyrs and martyrs of the Palestinian sports movement.”
Rajoub revealed that more than 1,000 members of the youth, sports, and scout movement were martyred, wounded, or missing, in addition to tens of thousands of displaced people.
Rajoub accused the Israeli army of “targeting sports facilities and the headquarters of Palestinian sports federations and clubs.”
The Palestinian Football Association announced that it had sent “urgent letters to the International Olympic Committee and all international, continental and regional federations,” including the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), “demanding the opening of an urgent international investigation into the occupation’s crimes against sports and athletes in Palestine.”
