The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered the kidnapping of an infant by the Israeli occupation army from the Gaza Strip as evidence of the commission of the most heinous crimes, demanding the immediate handover of the infant.

The ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that the Israeli army’s kidnapping of an infant from the Gaza Strip is evidence of the most heinous crimes being committed against civilians without oversight or accountability.

She added that this matter deepens our conviction that the occupation army is committing the most horrific crimes of genocide, abuse, direct killing and kidnapping against defenseless civilians in the Gaza Strip without accountability or oversight, part of which has been revealed and many other parts remain unknown until this moment.

The Ministry added that there are a number of questions related to this painful crime and others, especially in light of confirmations that it is not the first and may not be the last to occur in the Gaza Strip.

She wondered, “What was the method by which the baby was transported from the Gaza Strip to inside Israel? How was she smuggled or transported openly by the knowledge of several soldiers, officers, and commanders responsible for this soldier? What was the fate of the baby and her family? Where is she now? Why was this crime not announced publicly?” Before the official Israeli institutions?

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry called on the Israeli authorities to immediately hand over the baby to the Palestinian National Authority.

Kidnapping the baby

An Israeli soldier revealed yesterday, Monday, that an army officer friend of his kidnapped a Palestinian baby from the Gaza Strip after her family was killed by the army’s violent bombing of the Strip.

Regarding the same incident, another friend of the aforementioned officer spoke about the latter’s transfer of the infant to a hospital in Israel, without mentioning his name.

Soldier Shahar Mendelsohn revealed the kidnapping incident while speaking to Army Radio about his friend, officer in the Givati Brigade, Harel Itach, who was killed in battles in the northern Gaza Strip on November 22nd.

In response to a question about the baby, Mendelsohn said, “He (Itach) spoke with a friend during his period of service in Gaza and told him that in one of the houses he entered he heard a baby crying and that he decided to send her to Israel.”

The soldier did not clarify the location of the house where Itach found the Palestinian girl in the Gaza Strip.

Since last October 7, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving 21,978 martyrs, 57,697 injured, massive infrastructure destruction, and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
