Hamdan Ballal, the Palestinian Codirector of the Oscar -winning documentary, no other land which was detained by the Israeli army after being attacked by settlers, was released.
In an article on the social media platform, X Tuesday, his colleague Codirector Yuval Abraham said: “After being handcuffed overnight and beaten in a military base, Hamdan Ballal is now free and is about to return home to his family.”
The Associated Press press agency said that its journalists had also seen Ballal and two other Palestinians leaving the police station where they were detained in the Israeli colony of Kiryat Arba in an occupied West Bank.
Ballal had bruises on his face and blood on his clothes, the AP reported.
Ballal said he was detained in an army base and forced to sleep under an icy air conditioner.
“I was blindfolded for 24 hours,” he told AP.
“All night long, I was. It was a room, I couldn’t see anything … I heard the voice of the soldiers laugh at me. ”
Lea Tsemel, the lawyer representing the three men, said that they had only received minimum care for their injuries from the attack and that she did not have access to them for several hours after their arrest. She had previously declared that they had been accused of having threw stones on a young colonist, allegations they deny.
Ballal and the other directors of No Atom Other Land, who explores the difficulties of life under the Israeli occupation, had set up the scene at the 97th Academy Awards in Los Angeles earlier this month when the film won the Oscar Prize for the best documentary feature.
On Monday, about two dozen settlers – some masked, some wearing firearms and some in military uniforms – attacked the village of Cisjordanie occupied in Susiya in the evening while the residents broke quickly during the Sacred Muslim Ramadan month.
The soldiers who arrived pointed out their weapons on the Palestinians, while the colonists continued to throw stones, said residents in the AP.
Lamia Ballal, the director’s wife, said she heard her husband beat outside their home as she huddled inside with their three children. She heard him screaming: “I’m dying in death!” And calling for an ambulance.
When she looked out the window, she saw three men in uniform beating Ballal with the butts of their rifles and another person in civilian clothes that seemed to film violence.
“Of course, after the Oscar, they came to attack us more,” said Lamia. “I was afraid.”
The Human Rights Group Amnesty International called for the responsibility of the attack.
“Hamdan Billal was missing by Israeli soldiers after being attacked by Israeli settlers attacking the Palestinians … He has now been released, but those who have led the attacks must be held responsible,” he said in an article on X.
Ballal said he had been attacked by a well -known colonist who had threatened him in the past.
The colonist can be seen with other masked men in a video widely broadcast from August in which they threaten Ballal. “It is my land, I was given by God,” said the colonist in the video, in which he also uses blasphemies and tries to make the ballal fight it. “Next time, it won’t be good,” said the colonist in the video.
On Tuesday, a small blood stain could be seen outside the Ballal family home, and the windshield and the car windows were broken. Neighbors pointed out a water tank nearby with a hole in the side which, according to them, had been struck by the colonists.
Basel Adra – Another co -statement of the film, which is an eminent Palestinian militant in the region – said that there was a massive increase in attacks by Israeli colonists and forces since the Oscar victory.
“No one can do anything to stop the pogroms, and the soldiers are only there to facilitate and help the attacks,” he said.
“We live in dark days here, in Gaza, and all the West Bank … nobody stops that.”
The Israeli army said on Monday that she had detained three Palestinians suspected of having launched rocks and an Israeli civilian involved in what he described as a violent confrontation.
