Thousands of people came from all over Hungary for this opposition demonstration led by Peter Magyar.
More than 10,000 people took part on Sunday afternoon in Debrecen, in eastern Hungary, in the demonstration organized on the occasion of Mother’s Day by Peter Magyar’s new party, Tisza. Volunteers and people hoping for a new political start came from across Hungary for an opposition demonstration of unprecedented scale in a city that has been the stronghold of the ruling Fidesz party for decades.
Peter Magyar presented his party’s candidates for the European elections. He spoke of billions stolen from the EU which were put into private pockets. “Hungary is a family limited liability company. We will put an end to it and dissolve the Orbán-Mészáros-Tiborcz joint stock company.” (referring to the Prime Minister, his son-in-law, Istvan Tiborcz, and his friend, Lőrinc Mészáros, who became one of the richest men in Hungary over the past decade).
Regarding the war in Ukraine, Peter Magyar said that the aggressor is Putin, because he started the war. “Orbán and Fidesz say they are the party of peace and everyone else is a party of war, but that is not true, all Hungarians are for peace, regardless of party affiliation , whatever they lie in their propaganda.
