Yesterday, Wednesday, the Israeli occupation authorities in Jerusalem released elderly lawyer Muhammad Alyan after a 12-month detention on charges of “incitement” via social media.

The Wadi Hilweh Human Rights Information Center said on its Facebook page that the occupation released “Maqdisi lawyer Muhammad Alyan (70 years old) from the Jabal Mukaber neighborhood after the end of his one-year sentence on charges of “incitement” through posts and writings on Facebook.”

Last August, an Israeli court issued a 12-month prison sentence against lawyer Alyan, who was arrested from his home in October 2023.

The center indicated that signs of fatigue and exhaustion appeared clearly on the lawyer Al-Maqdisi “because he was subjected to difficult detention conditions and was denied medication,” noting that “today he needs medical follow-up and treatment.”

He explained that lawyer Alyan is a human rights activist who was previously arrested several times and spent several years in prison. His house was demolished and he was prevented from using it after the martyrdom of his son Bahaa. He was also one of the most prominent activists in campaigns demanding the handover of the bodies of martyrs detained by the occupation.

Bahaa was martyred on October 13, 2015 after he was shot inside an Israeli bus on the pretext of carrying out a stabbing attack that led to the death of three settlers.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center pointed out that lawyer Alyan came out of prison to find that two of his relatives had been martyred, namely his nephew Ahmed Alyan, who was martyred last December, and the grandson of his brother, the child Wadih Alyan, who was martyred last February, and the occupation authorities continue to detain them. Their bodies.

It is noteworthy that the occupation authorities, in conjunction with the aggression against Gaza, launched a massive arrest campaign in Jerusalem that included more than 1,920 people, according to the Jerusalem Governorate.
