“It is with great pride and honor that I bring to you the news of the martyrdom of Habib Al-Fouad, my father.” With these poignant words, the daughter of Dr. Iyad Al-Rantisi announced the martyrdom of her father, head of the maternity department at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza Strip, inside Israeli prisons, a week after his arrest last November.

Yesterday, Tuesday, medical sources revealed to Tel Aviv Tribune the martyrdom of Dr. Al-Rantisi, more than a month and a half after it was revealed that the prominent Palestinian doctor, Adnan Al-Barsh, had been martyred in the occupation prisons.

Israeli media also reported that Dr. Rantisi was martyred at an Israeli investigation center affiliated with the Internal Security Service (Shin Bet) in the city of Ashkelon.

The Shin Bet claimed that this 53-year-old doctor was accused of “taking hostages,” while no official statement was issued by the Israeli army or the Shin Bet regarding Rantissi’s death.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that the Magistrate Court in the city of Ashkelon issued – following the death of Al-Rantisi – an order prohibiting the publication of any details about the case for a period of 6 months, and its validity expired last May.

Expressions of anger topped social media platforms after the news of Dr. Al-Rantisi’s martyrdom was published, and one of them said, “The doctor is kidnapped from among his patients and disappeared in prisons without charges.”

Some commentators urged senior Arab doctors to take action at the international level so that the world’s doctors could mobilize “in support of their heroic colleagues.”

Blue Space Facebook activists asked why the Israeli army concealed the death of Dr. Al-Rantisi for all these months, when he was arrested last November.

For its part, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) condemned “the crime of assassinating Doctor Rantisi in Zionist detention centers” and called on the international community to take action to uncover the fate of detainees who were kidnapped by the occupation from hospitals and shelter centers.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza with absolute American support, leaving more than 122,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, which has placed Israel in international isolation and led to its prosecution before the International Court of Justice.
